Digital Paradox for Seniors

Seniors desire for digital inclusion is outpacing service provider’ and community response.

Our ‘Digital Paradox for Seniors’ research debunks the myth that seniors are digitally shy and reveals that when shown ‘how to’, seniors eagerly embrace technology. In fact, the desire of seniors for digital inclusion is outpacing service providers’ and community response.

We surveyed over 600 older Australians who shared their views and experiences of technology.

  • 90% enjoy learning about technology yet only 8% feel highly confident in using it

  • 76% of seniors turn to family for help with technology however support is often unavailable citing distance, lack of time and lack of knowledge as the biggest barriers

  • 91% of seniors use technology for conversation indicating personal connection is key and a human experience is essential when learning

There are some community beliefs and wider assumptions that seniors lack the appetite and ability to successfully interact with technology. Our research proves that seniors in fact embrace learning and the digital experience.

We explore this and other findings in more detail, together with insight from experts including ADSSI Limited and Nan Bosler from Australian Seniors Computer Clubs Association. You’ll also find stories bringing to life the real experiences of seniors.
